Stock Market Tycoon

The Stock Market Strategy Game

Stock Market Tycoon was given to me as a present by a relative that knows about my interest in board games and money. Unlike most of the other board games that I have made web sites about, this is currently available. My copy of the game seems to be the “Deluxe Edition” but when I went on the Internet to find out all I could about the game, I was unable to find anything on a non-deluxe edition. I presume that this is just marketing hype or just extra text to fill out the cover of the box.

I have now played the game a few times and it seems most suitable for children ages 10 to 14. It makes a great tool to teach kids about the stock market and some of the ideas and concepts that make it work while still being fun.

The first thing to do is take a look at what you get in the in. the box.

Inside we have a board, a packet with position markers and two dice, a wad of money, 3 types of cards, two preprinted tear off pads and the instructions.

The games consists of circulating the board, buying and selling shares as they fluctuate in price. The winner of the game is the 1st person to make the magic million. I have found the best tactic for quickly winning is to hold onto your cash until a share has halved its initial start value and then buy all in. About 1 in 3 shares will do this. If these shares go up at all and another share drops to half its start value then switch to the new share, otherwise hang onto your stock for the rest of the game. Any spare money you acquire should be gambled in day trading. If by some chance (happens only 1 in 10 games) one of the three “blue chips” has dropped in value twice and then it will only be $1000, if this happens then the game will be over shortly as everyone will buy in with all they have.
